Israel is a country in the middle east.
It was founded in 1948. The name of Israel comes from the old Hebrew
language and means God’s fighter. In this areal Jewish and Palestines
have lived thousands of years together. 2000 years ago the area of
Israel was a Roman province. In this time Pontius Pilatus was the
governor. Jesus Christ was born 2007 years ago. We all know what
happened to him. The scientists are sure that he was living but all
what the bible tries to tell us was written a couple hundred years
later. So, what we believe today might be true or not. However
Nazareth, Jericho, Jerusalem, Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea are
places you might have heard of in the news. But this locations are
some of the oldest in the human culture. We all know Bethlehem, the
place where Jesus was born. It was there 2007 years ago and is still
there.
This region has seen many wars and crusades from middle Europe that
marched down to Israel to free Jesus Christs grave. This was never a
peaceful region.
Jewish people are very successful as
businessman, bankers, scientists musicians and poets. They are hard
workers. These characteristics have made that other people are
jealous. So Jewish people were always followed. People have made
special laws for them.
On the other hand emperors, kings and dukes have always borrowed money
from them. As we can see it was never easy for Jewish people to be
accepted like others.
80 years ago in Germany there was a criminal dictator. He has made a
special ideology that Jewish people are the unluck of the world. And
the world would be better without them. Also in other European
countries Jews were not liked. But Adolf Hitler, that was the name of
this German dictator, had started to massly kill them off. Finally 5
million Jewish people have been killed in concentration camps and gas
chambers.

When the second world war was over and Germany was defeated, the
winning nations decided to let the left over Jewish have their own
country. Of course they thought of the region Israel, the name was in
this time Palestine. Jews had their roots in this holy country and the
few Palestine’s that lived there, lived in tents and did not make
anything out of the country.
So, Israel was founded in 1948. This country is two and a half times
smaller than Nova Scotia. But the population is 7 times larger.
(Israel: 20.991 km², Nova Scotia: 55,283 km², Israel: 7,026,000
citizens, Nova Scotia: 934,405 citizens).The smallest part of Israel
is only 15 km. And the total length is 480 km, it’s from here to Cape
Breton. Today Israel is populated by more than 60 Nations.
However, Jews now have their own country. But is was trouble from the
first day on with the Palestine and Arabian people. They were jealous
about how wonderfully successful the Jews were in building Israel.
Jews have changed a desert into a flourishing garden. Over 60 years
Israel has been attacked now permanently by the Palestine’s and the
Arabian Nations, their neighbours. Jealousy is one reason, but the
main reason is that the Arabians are Muslims and their religion, the
Islam, says that all Jews are pigs. In this way they follow them just
like the Nazi’s and Hitler. In their official declaration they say
that Israel should be wiped from the maps and all Jews should be
driven into the ocean.
The daily situation is that Israel is bombarded by Quassam rockets,
and suicide bombers try to kill as many Israelians as possible. So
Israel must pay a lot of money to defend themselves. Every young
Israelian, male and female, must go to the army. Israel is the only
working democracy in Middle-East.
Today, 40 years ago, Israel had to defend itself against it’s Arabian
neighbours. The name of this war is the Six-Day-War. Israel destroyed
preventively the air forces of all his Arabian neighbours on the
ground before they could take off and destroy Israel.
On behalf of the experience with war victims and wounded people today
Israel is the leader in surgery and complete recovery of health.
Israel is the largest exporter of south fruits like oranges. Israels
industry is one of the leading in the world.
The citizens are motivated to do the best for their country under
extremely difficult circumstances.
My parents, my sister and myself
want to move to Israel for one to two years in 2008.
