We seem to have overcome Soviet fascism,
though the heirs of Nazi-fascism live; but the biggest threat to freedom lies
in Islamic fascism.
Freedom is not self-evident.
We are at war – and we have to defend ourselves. For the sake of
our children.

Wrapped in a flag
Wer war Henry Moon. Googel’n Sie nicht.
Sie werden ihn nicht finden. Nicht mal seine Nachbarn kannten ihn. Ich
kannte ihn, er wohnte in einer von Toms Cabin, tief in den Wäldern
Kentuckys.
Henry war in meinem Alter. Also nicht soo alt. Dennoch hat er in den
letzten 4 Jahren die Cabin kaum noch verlassen. Er war traurig
das
seine Frau gestorben war. Er saß vor dem Fernseher und schaute 24
Stunden Discovery oder Military Channel oder History Channel. Seine
Kleidung war zerlumpt, sein T-Shirt hatte einen Riss, der einmal um
den Körper ging.
Das tolle an Henry war: Er hielt sich für einen General der
Südstaatenarmee. Er hatte Zivilwar-Boots an und einen entsprechenden
Hut auf dem Kopf. Lediglich seine feine Goldrandbrille passte nicht
ganz. Er war schon sonderbar. Fotografieren durfte ich ihn nicht. „Das
stielte meine Seele“, sagte er.
Gerade hatten wir ihn noch gesehen. Die Kinder waren immer mehr als
beeindruckt. Gestern kam die Email:
„This email comes with much sadness. Henry, (Toms cousin) committed
suicide with a pistol in the woods behind the cabin, Noah found him
wrapped in a rebel flag, He evidently took a shot to the chest, he
left 3 bowls of dog food and a note, it spoke of a gold watch.”
Also schrieb ich zurück. Tröstende Worte sollten es nicht sein. Aber
in den Wäldern, down there, ist man entweder streng religiös oder
total das Gegenteil.
Liebe Janie,
bitte richte Tom aus, dass wir kondolieren. Das sind traurige
Nachrichten. Auf der anderen Seite war es sein eigener Wille. Als
Libertäre glauben wir an die Self-Ownership des Individuums. Niemand
hat uns gefragt ob wir geboren werden wollen. So ist es in Ordnung,
dass einige Menschen wenigstens den Zeitpunkt des Gehens bestimmen
wollen. Mir ist klar, dass diese Position nicht sehr christlich ist.
Wie auch immer, ich denke, dass mein Leben so reich ist, dass ich
traurig bin über jeden Tag der vergeht. Gern hätte ich wesentlich mehr
Zeit. Was Henry betrifft fehlte ihm offensichtlich die Kraft etwas
konstruktives zu machen, seinem Leben einen Sinn zu geben.
Wahrscheinlich starb er als General der Südstaatenarmee. Er wird seine
persönliche Freiheit gefunden haben.
