I join with the Simon Wiesenthal Center in urging you, in your capacity as President of FIFA, to bar Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from attending the forthcoming World Cup in Germany this June.
The Iranian President has openly called for Israel's destruction and is an avowed Holocaust denier, having called the Nazi Holocaust a "myth". The international community of sports must not allow such a person to sit in the VIP section at one of the world's most prestigious sporting events. His presence would evoke painful memories of the
1936 Berlin Olympic Games when leaders of the Third Reich sat in the VIP section, a move that gained them stature and acceptance throughout the world.
It would indeed be a travesty if FIFA found it fit to condemn Israel for an air strike on an empty soccer field in the Gaza Strip used for training by terrorists but would lose its voice in protest against a promoter of genocide and a Holocaust denier taking a seat in the VIP section of the World Cup.
Even if the ultimate decision to invite President Ahmadinejad to Germany was not FIFA's, it is crucial for an organization devoted to fairness and equality not to stand on the sidelines of this issue. Silence will only further embolden this dangerous demagogue.

Ich schließe mich dem Simon Wiesenthal Center an und bitte Sie in Ihrer Funktion als Präsident der FIFA, den Besuch des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmud Ahmadinedjad bei der kommenden Weltmeisterschaft in Deutschland in diesem Juni zu verhindern.
Der iranische Präsident hat öffentlich die Zerstörung Israels gefordert und ist ein erklärter Holocaustleugner, der den Nazi-Holocaust als „Mythos“ bezeichnet hat. Die internationale Gemeinschaft des Sports darf es einer solchen Person nicht erlauben, im VIP-Bereich eines der prestigeträchtigsten Sportereignisse der Welt zu sitzen. Seine
Anwesenheit würde schmerzhafte Erinnerungen an die Olympischen Spiele 1936 in Berlin hervorrufen, als Führer des Dritten Reiches im VIP-Bereich saßen – ein Schritt, der ihnen Gestalt und Anerkennung in der Welt verschuf.
Es wäre in der Tat ein Witz, wenn die FIFA es passend fände, Israel für einen Luftangriff auf ein leeres Fußballfeld im Gazastreifen – das von Terroristen zu Trainingszwecken benutzt wurde – zu verurteilen, es ihr aber die Stimme versagen würde, wenn es um den Protest gegen einen Förderer des Genozids und Holocaustleugner geht, der im
VIP-Bereich der Weltmeisterschaft Platz nehmen will.
Auch wenn die letzte Entscheidung, Präsident Ahmadinedjad nach Deutschland einzuladen, nicht die der FIFA war, ist es äußerst wichtig für eine Organisation, die der Fairness und Gleichheit verpflichtet ist, sich aus dieser Frage nicht herauszuhalten. Ein Schweigen wird diesen gefährlichen Demagogen nur weiter ermutigen.
