Mit ihrem 5,0-Megapixel-CCD-Sensor liefert die PowerShot S50 hoch aufgelöste Bilder, die sich bis zum Format A3 vergrößern lassen. Einen entsprechenden Anteil an der ausgezeichneten Bildqualität hat das 3fache Canon Hochleistungs-Zoomobjektiv, das einen Brennweitenbereich von 35-105mm (äquivalent Kleinbild) abdeckt. Der exklusive Canon DIGIC-Bildprozessor sorgt dank seiner hohen Geschwindigkeit für eine hochwertige Verarbeitung der Daten und damit für hervorragende Bildergebnisse, die sich sehen lassen können.
Die leistungsfähige Kamera bietet 13 Belichtungsfunktionen für viele unterschiedliche Aufnahmesituationen. Ein 1,8“ LCD-Monitor erleichtert die Bildbeurteilung nach der Aufnahme und die Menü-Navigation. Die ergonomische Anordnung aller wichtigen Bedienelemente sorgt für eine komfortable und einfache Bedienung. Mit ihrem kompakten Aluminium-Gehäuse passt die kompakte Kamera in fast jede Tasche.

Die iSAPS-Motivanalyse analysiert jedes Motiv bereits vor der Aufnahme auf eine Reihe von Faktoren, wie Brennweiteneinstellung und Helligkeitsverteilung. Dies ermöglicht eine schnellere automatische Scharfeinstellung, präzise Belichtungssteuerung und exakten Weißabgleich im Moment der Aufnahme. Dank des intelligenten 9-Punkt-Autofokus lassen sich auch außermittige Objekte automatisch scharfstellen. Mit FlexiZone AF/AE kann das AF/AE-Messfeld nahezu beliebig im Format platziert werden, für einen großen Gestaltungsspielraum.

Die PowerShot S50 ist Canon Direct Print kompatibel und kann so zum sofortigen Ausdruck der Bilder an jeden geeigneten Canon Direktdrucker angeschlossen werden, ohne dass ein PC erforderlich wäre.

Ein optional erhältliches Unterwassergehäuse erlaubt den Einsatz der PowerShot S50 bis zu einer maximalen Tauchtiefe von 30 m.

Ein umfangreiches Software-Paket für die Betrachtung und Bearbeitung der Bilder ist im Lieferumfang der Kamera enthalten. Mit dem ZoomBrowser EX (Windows) bzw. dem ImageBrowser (Macintosh) wird es möglich, die Aufnahmen auf einen PC oder Macintosh herunterzuladen und zu verwalten.
